Brief Valley Falcons History

Beginning with two football teams in 1964, the back then Sun Valley Falcons have grown into an organization with seven football squads.

An insurance man, Harry Brown, founded the Falcons with a Pee Wee and Midget. A Junior Bantam team was added the following team and in 1966 that squad won the conference championship and went on to win the Southern California King Conference championship.

Kip Downen and Gene Uebelhardt were teammates on the ’66 champion Junior Bantams and in ’67 they continued their winning ways as member of the championship Cal Luthern College football team.

The Falcons added the Valley Conference Sportsmanship trophie in 1966, an award based on each teams’ players, coaches and parents in the stands.

By 1967 Valley Falcons had added two Mity Mites, on which was led by Kenny Opalk. As a 10-year old, Opalk scored eight touchdowns in one game while leading the entire Valley Conference in rushing for the season.

In 1968 the Falcons Mity Mites won the conference championship coached by Jhon Dibene. That same squad repeated the feat the following year, this time as Pee Wees and again coached Dibene.

Currently the Falcons list over 50 alumni playing football from San Diego St. to Cal Luthern College and from Verdugo Hills to Glendale area high schools.
